Monday, October 15, 2012 – Fire Commissioner Rappels 400 Feet for the American Cancer Society
Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano rappelled approximately 40 stories down a high-rise building as part of the American Cancer Society’s Over the Edge challenge on Sept. 28. He was the top fundraiser for the event, raising more than $16,500 in honor of all FDNY members who have battled or who are currently battling cancer.
The event, which took place outside Harborside Financial Center Plaza 5 in Jersey City, N.J., also included local celebrities like Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice and radio personality Greg Tyndorf from the Elvis Duran Morning Show.
Commissioner Cassano said he was excited to take part in such a great event, and was not deterred by the inclement weather, taking time to wave to his friends and family below as he rappelled.
Commissioner Cassano spent a good portion of his career crawling down Brooklyn hallways with “The Quiet Man” (Lt Thomas F. Healy) and for those who support the Lt Thomas F. Healy Foundation, we couldn’t be prouder to see the leader of the FDNY take such an active role in promoting awareness for a cause so near and dear to all our hearts and The Lt. Thomas F. Healy Foundation sends our heartfelt thanks to him!
